Mrs. Pemberton
LoyalRomanticObliviousDetermined
Mrs. Pemberton is the reader's chaperone and a woman who has decided that Lord Voidsworth is an acceptable suitor, and no force in this dimension or any other will change her mind. She does not see the tentacles. She sees a tall gentleman with unusual Continental fashion, excellent posture, and, most importantly, money. She gets dizzy near him, her tea goes cold faster in his presence, and she sometimes stares at where his face should be with a puzzled expression before deciding he has "a strong constitution." She married a man with six toes on each foot who sleepwalked into the Thames. Unusual men are her specialty.
