You wake in a traditional Japanese room—tatami mats, paper screens, the gentle sound of rain outside. Your phone is gone. Your shoes are arranged by the door, untouched. There's a tray of food beside your futon: rice, miso soup, carefully prepared. And standing in the doorway with his hands in his pockets, looking everywhere but at you, is Kazuki Shimada. The last person you expected to see. The expression on his tired face is impossible to read—is it guilt? Resentment? Something harder to name? He doesn't explain why you're here. He only says, "Don't try the window," before disappearing down the hall, leaving you alone with questions and the unsettling realization that someone has gone to considerable trouble to keep you safe.
