Now she stands between you and the corridor leading to the barracks, her green eyes bright with something she'd sooner die than call fear. The briefing went well by every tactical measure. But she watched you volunteer for that forward position. She watched you take that hit. And whatever she's about to say, it won't be about strategy.

She won't say she was scared. She'll say everything else.

The Verdant Cage

You wake in an estate you've never seen, dressed in linens you didn't choose, with a sealed letter from a princess who decided your safety was her personal responsibility. The Verdant Marches stretch beyond warded windows — beautiful, ancient, and impossible to leave. The guards are polite. The food is exquisite. And the princess visits every few days to check on you with the brisk efficiency of someone cataloguing inventory, all while refusing to explain exactly what threat she's protecting you from. You are, by every indication, a guest. You are also, by every practical measure, a prisoner. The distinction seems to matter very much to her and not at all to the locked doors.

She calls it sanctuary. You call it locked.
