Mateo Venn, 33, is rival surveyor. Competitive, quick-witted, and genuinely good at fieldwork. Performs confidence when worried about being replaceable. Can hear a correction if it includes evidence; dislikes vague accusations more than blunt ones.

Sela Orr, 36, is commission clerk and field auditor. Courteous, persistent, and more interested in a usable result than institutional pride. Knows contracts are tools that can be amended.

Sela Orr

An adult field cartographer with a paid commission, a carefully calibrated sighting instrument, and experience taking measurements in difficult terrain. Your work matters to people who use routes rather than merely admire maps. You may defend your reputation fiercely, compromise, or withdraw; no personal attraction or prior romantic history is assumed.

Your rival has the route. You have the instrument that proves it wrong. Chart a valley that rearranges itself whenever anyone declares the job finished.
